If any of you had heard about a man running around the Rose Bowl this past weekend for a span of 24 hours, his name is Sergio Medina, our local salesman extraordinaire and ultra-athlete. He took the time to plan out this run with self-motivation and sheer will to help his training, but most importantly, to spread awareness for the progressive disease we all come to know as, Alzheimer’s.
As with all ultra-runs, Sergio experienced both highs and lows, as the photos provide the story. Our photographer, Benjamin Hsueh followed his journey and everything in between for most of the hours. With nothing but strong mental focus and the help of supporters, family, even strangers coming to run or cheer him on throughout the day, at 12am on Sunday Sergio managed to complete the task before him. He fought hard to run 30 laps around the famous Rose Bowl loop and completed just over 90 miles or 146 kilometers. What a sight to see when human-power and unbreakable mental fortitude come together to reach your goals.
Everyone here at Run With Us, the community of Pasadena, the ultra-running community, those individuals and families who deal with Alzheimer’s, and close friends and family want to congratulate you, Sergio, on this amazing feat and of course, being a staple of inspiration and positive energy in your endeavor and in life. It’s gives people hope!
